Feather and down exports reached nearly US $1.77 billion in 2005, increasing 8.6 percent over the same period the previous year.
Among which, wearing exports showed a big rise in value, with an average increase of 12.3 percent. Bedding exports averaged a growth of 7 percent.
The US remained China's largest export market for down industry in 2005.
In that year, China's feather and down related products exported to the US amounted to $548.34 million, accounting for 31 percent of the industry's total exports.
Feather bedding imported by the US from China accounted for 34 percent of the export market in China's feather bedding. The US remained the world's largest consumer of world's feather bedding.
In addition, the US is China's largest export market for raw wool, taking a market share of 57 percent of China's raw wool exports.
Regarding the import of raw wool, China imported 16,523 tons feathers in 2005, growing 21.7 percent compared to the same period of prior year, and import amount grew by 55.3 percent.
According to the All-China Commercial Information Center, China sold about 50 million pieces of down wear in domestic market in 2005, growing by 30.5 percent over the same period in 2004.
In January-June 2006, China exported 10.73 million pieces of feather wear, up 20.4 percent over last year's same time, with export amount at $203.29 million, rising 37.3 percent.
Feather bedding has been rapidly developed over the past few years, from January to June this year, exports of feather bedding reached 37,030 tons, up 14.7 percent on a year-on-year basis, with export amount at $215.62 million, an increase of 11.4 percent from the same period last year.
