Congress may approve crucial trade preferences for Haiti during lame duck session starting on December 5, 2006.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas, who is preparing trade bill, and incoming Chairman, Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., are among the supporters of the Haitian Hemispheric Opportunity Partnership Encouragement Act.

This bill will allow clothes made in Haiti to enter into US market without any duty on it.

If this bill is approved then it will support Haitian apparel industry that is in danger of disappearing.
