Hanesbrands Inc has cancelled its contract with Bangladeshi garment maker Harvest Rich Ltd (HRL) on account of violation of working hours and wage limits of its workers.
A company statement cited reasons for cancellation stating that HRL had registered incorrect records purposely to hide additional working hours and not paid its workers for their overtime duties.
Company officials conducted two visits to the Winston-Salem firm for inquiring about allegations of human rights activists that 11 year old children were made to work long hours there. However, no child labour cases were detected during the inquiry.
HRL announced it will cease production of Hanesbrands T-shirts and innerwear with immediate efect.
