Though apparel imports of 233.4 billion yen in November 2006 represented year-on-year growth of almost 8 percent, figure recorded a fall from October 2006 imports of 289.7 billion yen.

However, during January-November 2006 period apparel imports reached 2.541 trillion yen with an increase of nearly 12 percent from the same period in 2005.

Weak yen and hike in prices boosted the imports even when retail is registering feeble sales.

Of all the product categories woven women's wear, kid's clothing and knitted apparel were most popular.

China remained the top supplier for Japan, expanding its share of apparel market from 80.8 percent in 2005 to nearly 82 percent last year.
