President exhorts authorities to promote local clothing

25
Jan '07
Ministries and state organizations have been notified about a law, which will revive status of local fashion and help promote national apparel patterns, by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Article 1 of the law holds Culture Ministry responsible for setting up a committee, which will include people from Ministries of Commerce, Industries, Culture and Education along with Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting and Management and Planning Organization.

This committee, under the aegis of Majlis Cultural Commission, should promote local fashion and clothing, reinforce Iranian-Islamic culture and identity and also discourage those who accept global fashions alien to Iranian culture.

Culture Ministry has approved the forming of such a committee.

Commerce Ministry will arrange seasonal textile and apparel fairs for public to enhance production and sales of Iranian-Islamic patterns and garments.
