India has recently sent a draft memorandum of agreement (MoU) to Government for importing apparels under South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA).
On the basis of MoU, Government is carrying out procedures to export six million pieces of apparel to India.
In first week of next month, commerce ministry will conduct inter-ministerial meeting for finalization of the strategy.
In November 2006, India sent MoU to Government for exporting apparels under SAFTA.
As per the MoU submitted, India would offer preferential access to six million pieces of garments, if Government imports fabrics of three million pieces from India.
Rest of the quantity can be imported either from Bangladesh or India.
