South Africa imposes quotas on garment imports

South Africa has imposed quotas on import of Chinese apparel. Government failed to revitalize clothing industry despite production scale of South African garment enterprises surging up.

Garment sector lacks capital for new investments. Experts doubt that the number of jobs has not increased much, they expect the situation to become clear when retailers start placing their summer orders.

Quota system is supposed to help South Africa's employment rate rise. But cheaper imports from Asian countries other than China have started flooding South African markets, which could hinder employment.

Many textile companies look at quotas as a great relief. Some of them have been adversely affected by quotas, because they are unable to use fabrics made in South Africa.
