RMG sector of the country, in order to provide an improved working environment, launched a unified code of conduct, 'Health and Safety Checklist', in Dhaka on April 11.
The checklist was proposed by ten international buyers of Bangladeshi readymade garments. This will help local garment unit owners standardize buyers' requirements.
The list offers simple measures that can make significant improvements in working conditions which in turn enhance economic performance and competitiveness of the industry.
The checklist was developed by Buyers Forum of Bangladesh including International Finance Corporation (IFC) and SouthAsia Enterprise Development Facility (SEDF).
Bangladesh exported $8 billion worth of RMG goods last year. About 2.5 million workers are employed and 80 percent of them are women.
