Kolkata, a prospective venue for Spencer's

Sources reveal that Kolkata is to inaugurate 20 new Spencer's outlets by the end of September and the country to have 40 new stores by July 1.
In April, a hypermarket was launched in Durgapur. Avishar, country's sixth super store of Spencer's in Kolkata, covers an area of 6,500 sq ft and products ranging from grocery to fashion, accessories, etc. So far this is an outlet with the largest format of the group.
Three of Spencer's hyper market is expected to come up in Kolkata soon with 25000 products available under the same roof. Plans of further expansion are round the corner with a budget of around Rs1,000 crore.
According to sources, RPG Enterprises, Spencer's parent company, is anticipating to expand 2000 retails by 2009 in addition to another 5000 by 2011.
Presently, the company possesses 175 outlets in India spread over 30 cities with 10 Hypermarkets, 6 Supermarkets, 3 Fresh, 25 Express and 131 Dailies.
