Sarath Amunugama, Minister for Investment Promotion, invited Chinese investors to set up manufacturing unit in the island and make use of trade alliances that Sri Lanka has with India, Pakistan and the EU.

A delegation from the China Council for the promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) recently visited Sri Lanka for talks with the country's Board of Investment (BOI) and the Ministry of Investment promotion.

However, according to the BOI, this delegation has shown more interest in the construction industry rather than in apparel sector, the latter being one of the biggest foreign exchange earner for the country.

If China ignores Lankan apparel sector, it would miss out on a precious business opportunity.

BOI is also considering setting up special investment promotions zones keeping countries like China and India in mind.
