According to the Textile Industry Association Statistics, in the first half of 2007, textile imports reached US $8.23 billion, giving a growth of 4.6 percent over the same period last year.
Of these, yarn imports realized 9,37,000 tons worth $2.33 billion, representing an increase of 0.3 percent and 1.9 percent respectively. Fabric scored $4.37 billion, a rise of 5.2 percent and manufactured goods completed $1.53 billion, a growth of 7.2 percent.
Garment imports reached $840 million, a boost of 4.8 percent. Of which, knitted apparel registered $310 million, an increase of 1.7 percent, woven garment scored $370 million, a rise of 6.1 percent.
Among Knitted and woven garments, woolen apparel imports raised by 31 percent, man-made fiber apparel rose 7 percent, cotton apparel gained 3.7 percent, feather and leather apparel imports grew by 37 percent where as silk apparel imports fell 18.5 percent,
Total imports of knitted and woven apparel amounted to $270 million, down 16.7 percent, the average price read $2.51 per piece, showing an overall increase of 25 percent.
