Sri Lanka this week honoured its top apparel exporter Brandix with two Presidential Export Awards for its contribution to the national economy in 2005.

The Brandix Group received the special award for Highest Net Foreign Exchange Earner in 2005 and was also named the Most Outstanding Exporter in the Apparel Sector, at the Presidential Export Awards on Thursday, August 23.

The two awards were presented by President Mahinda Rajapakse to Brandix CEO Ashroff Omar and Director Feroz Omar at a ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat.

Commenting on these latest accolades, Mr. Ashroff Omar said: “The Presidential Export Awards are a great source of encouragement to us at Brandix because they represent an acknowledgement at the highest level of the value of our contribution to the apparel sector and to the country.”

“Brandix has positioned itself as the inspired solution for branded clothing and is aggressively investing in new growth to meet the challenges of the post-quota regime,” he said. “Awards such as these are an endorsement of the success of these efforts.”

As part of the event's agenda Mr. Omar was invited to make a presentation on 'Furthering Exports through Public/Private Sector partnership.'

Brandix also received the Most Outstanding Exporter Award and took the Gold award in the apparel sector at the National Awards for Export Excellence (NAEE) in 2003.

In March this year, Brandix was formally confirmed as the country's largest apparel exporter and second largest exporter overall, by the Export Development Board (EDB). Consolidated Group turnover for the year ending March 31, 2007 was US$ 320 million and Brandix is on target to reach its short term target of US$ 500 million, Mr. Omar said.

Brandix, which has adopted a unique customer-centric structure to offer end-to-end apparel solutions to its customers, has invested substantially in the expansion of its operations locally and in the region.

Over the last three years Brandix has invested Rs 6.6 Billion and in the last year alone the Group invested more than Rs 2.5 Billion to expand its Sri Lankan operations. Investments of Rs 3.5 Billion are in the pipeline for the current financial year.
