First historic meeting for mattress industry – a resounding success

Leaders of the International Sleep Products Association, (ISPA) representing mattress manufacturers and their suppliers, met with representatives of leading mattress retailers on February 7, 2008 in Naples, FL. to explore opportunities to work together to expand the market for mattress sales.
The 2008 ISPA Mattress Industry Leadership Summit was a significant event in the history of the industry. Together, participants representing mattress manufacturers, suppliers and retailers focused on growing the industry, explored initiatives that will benefit the overall industry and society, and discussed how each of these sectors can collaborate more fully and effectively to address the opportunities and threats facing the mattress industry.
“Our goal for this landmark event was to discuss the advantages of establishing a closer working relationship among the major sectors of the mattress industry value chain to expand the total market for mattress sales. We've achieved that goal and set the foundation for further action critical to our industry's growth,” stated Charlie Eitel, CEO and chairman, Simmons Bedding Company, and ISPA chair.
“The interest, enthusiasm and open discussion exhibited by our retailer partners was greatly appreciated. Based on the discussions that took place at the Leadership Summit, we plan to formulate recommendations for the ISPA Board's consideration in March that will greatly benefit the entire mattress industry,” he added.
