Apparel production amplifies in March

According to National Bureau of Statistics, garment production of China, in March 2008, accumulated nearly 1.57 billion pieces, up by 18.04 percent from the previous month. During the first quarter, total production of clothing reached 4.31 billion pieces, an increase of 5.87 percent from the same time last year.

Almost 715.98 million woven garment were manufactured in March registering a growth of 21.08 percent from the previous month, accounting for 45.56 percent of total garment output in the country. The cumulative production in Q1 touched 1.98 billion, an accumulated growth of 5.93 percent from the same time last year.

Over the same period, 855.41 million pieces of knitted apparels were produced, representing a hike of 15.61 percent from the previous month. During January to March, the yield of knitted clothing reached almost 2.32 billion pieces, a year-on-year boost of 5.81 percent.

According to statistics, in the month of March, output of stylish clothes came approximately to 47.83 million, total number of shirts produced were 75.94 million, children wear scored 27.86 million. However, due to warm weather, output of down garments fell by 11.94 million pieces.

From statistical comparison among provinces and municipal cities, Guangdong Province emerged as the highest manufacturer in March, by producing 3.52 million pieces, followed by Zhejiang that produced 314.2 million garments, representing a rise of 38.48 percent and Jiangsu with 276.46 million pieces, witnessing a rise of 10.83 percent, when compared with February.
