Apparel accessory exports register a surge

In March 2008, the Vietnam textile and garment industry earned US $64.3 million from exports of apparel accessories, representing a year on year rise of 40 percent.
During the month, made-in-Vietnam apparel accessories found recognition in 35 countries worldwide of which US ranked first importing $18.7 million worth goods and accounting for 29 percent of the total exports made by Vietnam. Infact, the figures marked an 85 percent increase from February 2008 and 20 percent from the same period in 2007.
China, Taiwan, UAE, Japan and EU were some of the other leading markets absorbing apparel accessory exports from Vietnam.
The total turnover from 43 markets, in the first quarter of 2008, reached 171.7 million, rising by 32.5 percent than the last year.
US still remained biggest market with imports amounting to $48.02 million, followed by Japan with $20.48 million, Germany with US$ 17.52 million and Belgium with 17.16 million.
Exports to China, in the given period stood at $3.42, up by 245 percent over the same period in 2007.
