Rathmalana to host skill development training for garment sector

May '08
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with Chamber of Garment Exporters Association (CGEA) of Sri Lanka is organizing a six day Skill Development Workshop on 'Strategic Management' at the Clothing Industry Training Institute, Rathmalana from May 31.

A total of 15 managers from SME garment sector are participating in the workshop to make the most of the training imparted during the sessions conducted.

Analysis made by experts have proved that not only is there a dearth of middle managers, there is also lack of managerial skills in the present management of the SME sector. Besides, the industry is also facing problems to sell their products due to difficulties in changing from manufacturing to marketing culture.

It is essentially for this reason that the workshop aims at covering 30 companies in 2008 and will focus on up grading the managerial capabilities of the middle management in the SMEs. It will also help them in developing business vision and objectives, identification of core competencies, market and company analysis of generic growth strategies, appraisal of planned investment in the business and identification of sources of finance for preparation of Bankable growth plans followed by practical sessions.

This program will play a crucial role in making the market strategy more adaptable for the SMEs of Sri Lanka. The training package is developed by the International Labor Organization (ILO) under Expand Your Business (EYB) program.
