Export of woolen shirts experiences a marginal growth

A statistics on exports of woolen shirts was revealed by the Vietnamese General Department of Customs which reflected a very modest growth both for the month of April and in the period between January and April.

In the month of April alone, the country exported some 235,000 pieces of woolen shirts to generate US $0.845 million, down by 8.3 percent in volume and by 19.7 percent in value compared to the previous month.

On an average of the first four months of 2008, the country exported 998,000 pieces earning $4 million and registering a year on year rise of 31.2 and 1 percent in terms of volume and value respectively.

Of the 39 client countries, Belgium emerged to be the largest market for Vietnam woolen shirts fetching $1.47 million in the first four months of 2008 and accounting for 36.5 percent of the total export turnover.

Besides, exports made to France, Australia, Spain and Slovakia also enjoyed a robust growth. However, it was only with US that exports saw a drop with 248,000 pieces for $1.23 million, reflecting a decline of 57.3 and 60.8 percent in terms of volume and value respectively.

With regard to exporting prices, it stood at $4.03 a piece on average as FOB went down by 23 percent compared to last year. Price quoted at Belgium was $3.24 a piece, up by 4.9 percent, while it touched $4.43 a piece at US market, down by 18 percent.
