In the first four months of 2008, Vietnam exported denim trousers worth nearly US $7.57 million to various markets across the world; this showcases a year-on-year rise of 247.1 percent.
From January to April, among all the overseas consumers, Japan turned out to be the biggest importer. Vietnam earned almost $3.7 million by exporting 405,000 pair of denims to Japan, a significant hike of 1,710 percent in volume and 1,025 percent in value, when compared to same period of last year.
During the same period, Vietnam shipped 197,500 pieces of denims to US. The nation earned almost $1million, experiencing a boost of 97 percent in volume and 104.8 percent in value.
However, exports to Taiwan declined; Vietnam shipped 118,000 pieces of denim trousers worth $1.28 million, a drop of 9.8 percent in terms of volume but there has been a growth of 27.4 percent in value terms.
Other key markets include Germany, Korea, Hong Kong, Austria and Thailand, however, export value in these markets was low.
