Apparel exports to Japan soar

In the first nine months 2008, Vietnamese garment exports turnover to Japan reached around US $600 million, representing a year–on–year growth of near about 14.78 percent, an official source from Ministry of Industry and Trade disclosed.
However, in the month of September, the export figures touched $74.8 million, showcasing a downfall of 8.74 percent against August. On the other hand, an increase of 17.9 percent was observed over the similar period previous year.
During January to September, around 15.6 million of elastic shirts worth $55.9 million were exported to Japan, depicting a surge of 128 and 135 percent in terms of volume and value in comparison to similar period 2007.
Vietnam earned nearly $52.1 million from exporting 7.7 million shirts to Japan, garnering 35.15 percent and 37.27 percent hike in both value and volume.
The export value of Kimono and Jacket increased 54 and 9 percent respectively in terms of value.
