Mr. David Spooner, the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Import Administration, Department of Commerce in the US government has advised the Vietnamese textile and garment producers to improve the quality of their products to boost exports to US since he expected stability to return by mid 2009.

Mr Spooner was addressing exporters from the industry in an interaction held on December 10 in Hanoi. Earlier, in November, the Department of Commerce had absolved Vietnamese garment exporters of anti-dumping charges which had brought about a sense of euphoria amongst the garment exporting community in these troubled times.

Vice-Chairman of the Vietnam Textiles and Apparel Association, Mr Dao appreciated the move of the US government to end the surveillance, but hoped that the new government to be sworn in from January would respect the commitments of the present administration and not impose any new barriers on the exporters.
