Exports of clothing from Guangdong fall, textiles grow

According to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs on December 22, from January-November 2008, Guangdong textile and garment exports (including textile yarn, fabrics, apparel and clothing accessories) registered US $30.8 billion, down 19.7 percent year-on-year, of which, exports of clothing and accessories were $22.7 billion, down 26.8 percent and shipments of textiles were $8.1 billion, an increase of 10 percent.
From January to November 2008, textile and garment exports from Guangdong Province in the form of general trade achieved $16.77 billion, down 33 percent and accounted for 54.5 percent of textile and garment export value over the same period while exports in the form of processing trade fetched $12.3 billion, an increase of 0.2 percent and thereby accounting for 39.9 percent of overall shipments.
From January to November 2008, textile and garment exports from Guangdong Province to Hong Kong touched $9.93 billion, down 12.8 percent; exports to the EU marked $5.82 billion, up 77.3 percent; exports to the United States realized $3.81 billion, down 14.9 percent and exports to ASEAN achieved $2.22 billion, down 36.2 percent.
Exports to the above-mentioned four main export markets together amounted to $21.79 billion and accounted for 70.8 percent in value of textile and garment export value over the same period.
