Vietnam has reported shipments of US $4 billion from exports of textiles and clothing in the first five months of 2009, a marginal drop of just 1.3 percent, when compared with the figures of the same period in the previous year.
Exporters are reporting of a small surge in orders received in the last few weeks, which has raised the optimism of the manufacturers from the sector. This has also led to a mad scramble for workers, who unfortunately are not available.
According to exporters, the next three months are the most important for the sector, since processing orders for the main buying season of Christmas and New Year, would be done in that period.
If orders are not received as per expectations, they predict a glum scenario in the last quarter of 2009 and would become difficult to even touch export figures achieved in the previous year.
