In order to ease tensions in garment sector, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mr. AKM Sahidul Huq called for the creation of welfare committees in garment factories.

Decisive actions will be taken on official complaints received from the garments sector, as ordered by Mr. Huq. The garment sector of the country is suffering from the industrial disputes and sporadic violence that arose last month during three days rioting by workers in Ashulia.

A high-level police panel have been set up to solve the issues related to the garment sector, informed the DMP chief, in a meeting with BGMEA and BKMEA representatives at police headquarters.

President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exports Association Mr. Abdus Salam Murshedi said that the problems related to rag trade, are the major problems in sector, which still are not being resolved permanently.

Meanwhile, the President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufactures and Exporters Association Md. Fazlul said that the violence in the semi-official rag trade is still a critical issue.

Better understanding among garment factory owners and workers in the Dhaka Metropolitan area is necessary, said the commissioner.
