Recently a group of textile and apparel exporters along with the Minister of Textiles, Mr Maran had attended the Japan International Fashion Fair and the feedback of the group on the outcome of the visit is very positive.
China dominates the Japanese market with a market share of 85 percent and if we can grab 10-15 percent of that share, it would be very substantial, said the President of Tirupur Exporters Association, Mr Sakthivel.
The Chairman of Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, Mr Velayutham was of the opinion that Japan wanted to diversify the number of countries from which it imports apparels rather than depend on one country; China.
He added by saying that the mindset of the Japanese was changing and considered India also to be capable of delivering high quality products. Currently India has a very negligible share of the Japanese markets.
Mr Sakhtivel divulged that the Indian government has proposed to hold a buyers-seller meet for woven apparels at Delhi and knitted apparels in Tirupur to help them gather first hand information about the Indian clothing industry.
