Non-woven:
The non-woven sector is one of the emerging sub-sectors having considerable uses in value-added products.

This is an important and growing market segment and it is certainly heartening to see that government has focused on this segment as well.

Processing:
Policy will support new investments in processing industry, especially in the processing of narrow-width fabric and knit dyeing.

Focusing on narrow-width processing technology will certainly help the downstream value-added garment sector which has been lagging behind because of too much focus on wide-width fabric processing.

Home Textiles:
Efforts will have to focus on fashion and design and branding.

Pakistan is one of the key players in home textiles and its products are well recognized world over but the industry has not taken up the initiative to brand its products properly and get better price for its product. The government has been advising the industry to go for branding in the past as well but so far no serious measures have been taken by either the industry or the government.

Garments:
The government will endeavor to make this sub-sector the manufacturing hub for highest value added products including availability of trained manpower, promotion of fashion designs and support in development and marketing of brand names.

The garment sector has lagged behind mainly because of poor stitching skills and lack of development of new value-added products. The government has certainly picked the key issues of this sector which requires greater focus before Pakistani exporters can take up the challenge from our regional competitors.

Fashion and Design:
Develop the fashion and design industry by increased number of fashion institutes, faculty development, industry linkages, special programs for local brands and designers recognition, affiliation with international fashion institutes, dissemination of information on new fashion trends, product development centers, introduction and availability of new fibers and their processing etc on public-private partnership basis.

Pakistan already have some good fashion and design institutes but the real problem is that the designers and institutes lack international exposure and hence, lack in vision to come up with fresh and original themes and designs which may be of interest to westerners as well.

Technical Textiles:
Government will develop a proper strategy for the promotion of technical textile in the country.

Technical textiles are important non-traditional segment which will help Pakistan in diversifying its product base. A clear strategy on this segment is the need of the hour.

Handloom and Handicrafts:
Steps will be taken to identify clusters for the traditional textiles and link up these clusters with fashion schools.

This is also a veryimportant segment which will help in reduction of poverty and may bring jobs to the poorest if a coherent strategy is formulated and implemented.
