Pearl Academy of Fashion, India's premier fashion and design institute conducted an interactive workshop on the 26th of September 2009 along with Ms. Annick Jehanne who is a consultant with various exporters & manufacturers in the fashion and soft goods business across Asia.

The workshop which was limited to 25 participants was held at the Indian Habitat Centre and the theme was "Practical Perspective to International Marketing and Engaging International Buyers". It was attended by key executives from leading buying houses, export houses, consulting firms and a few domestic brands.

The workshop commenced on a buoyant note with the key note being delivered by Ms. Nandita Abraham who is the Head of the Business & Technology department of the Pearl Academy of Fashion.

She took the audience through a quick run through on the global economic scenario, the downturn and effect of the recession on the fashion & retail industry and the need for both the retailers & brands as well as the vendors to effect a visible change to ensure that they evolve towards a collaborative & fruitful relationship that ensures that both last and grow together over a period of time.

Annick with her over 20 years of experience with a variety of brands (directly and indirectly) such as Quelle, Printemps and Galleries Lafayette and having understood the buying models of brands like Benetton, Primark, Esprit, Top Shop, Gucci, LV, Chanel, Dior, YSL and Forever 21.

She took the participants through a mapping process on how they think & behave in the buying process and how one has to be perceptive and sensitive to ensure that they give the buyer what they want without showing the buyer that they are confused.

She went from the macro & micro issues of the buying process to the detailed issues like initiatives, gestures and work that has to be undertaken on the ground level by the vendors to ensure a longetitivity in the relationship and interactivity between the buyer and the vendor.

Effectively planned and managed the participants ended the day with a much wider understanding of the buyer's perspective and practical direction as to how to collaborate with their buyers, differentiate themselves and become a preferred vendor.

The Pearl Academy of Fashion continues to be committed to the service and development of the industry and will further bring valuable issues to the forefront through workshops or specific company based trainings and projects.
