The rapid alert system for non-food (RAPEX) under the European Commission issued a warning to consumers on October 2, 2009 against a well-known brand of baby bib produced in China.

The country of Cyprus had lodged a complaint with the officiating agency, saying that, content of phthalate plasticizer DEHP within the product is 6.5 percent, which exceeds the limit of EU REACH standards.

The well know toy maker, Mattel has bought the products from China and after release of the warning, the supplier has taken initiative to stop selling the product and withdraw it from the market.
