Garment stitching training for women of monga-prone areas

The Employment and Welfare Minister, Mr Hossain announced that the government would offer employment opportunities to around 9,000 women from monga-prone areas.

The World Bank is assisting this project titled, 'welfare and employment generation project in the garment sector' and will provide a grant assistance of US $20-30 million, by the first half of 2010.

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association BKMEA), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association(BGMEA) and Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) would also help out with the project.

Mr Hossain said that three dormitories would be set up at Rangpur,Ishwardi and Dhaka to impart training to those women in the clothing manufacturing sector.
