European Ryder Cup Team' s victory with ADVANSA Thermo °Cool

The European Ryder Cup Team showed excellent strength on the spectacular Twenty Ten Course in Wales to win back the Ryder Cup Trophy. At the very highest level of the competition where strong performance, concentration and endurance was required in various weather conditions, the players were wearing Thermo Cool from Glenmuir. This incredibly light, performance fabric is specifically designed to keep the player thermo regulated and dry by rapidly transporting body heat and perspiration away from the body.
Developed by ADVANSA, Europe´s leading polyester fibre manufacturer, Thermo Cool was chosen by Scotland-based Glenmuir – One of Europe's leading golf brands – in consultation with European Ryder Cup Team Captain, Colin Montgomerie, because of the fluctuating weather conditions at Celtic Manor. Thermo Cool is a unique blend of hollow and solid fibres that interacts with the golfer and allows outstanding body temperatureregulation across the different range of external temperatures in Wales and activity levels of the player:
When it is warm and the golfer is hot and perspiring or in high activity, the fibres provide evaporative cooling, allowing vapour to escape and keeping the user cool and comfortable. When it is colder and the golfer is in low activity, the fibres reduce exposure to external temperatures by trapping body heat and creating a barrier to keep the user warm and thermo regulated - a process known as 'thermo-buffering'.
Colin Mee, Managing Director of Glenmuir, said: "In designing The European Ryder Cup Team shirts and sweaters with Team Captain Colin Montgomerie, we had to take into account the variety of weather conditions and find a shirt fabric that would perform as efficiently in blazing sunshine as it would under several layers if the players had to wrap up against the wind and rain. Thermo Cool has been specifically developed for those situations.”
In essence, the Thermo Cool shirts were perfect for the Ryder Cup since the player' s activity levels – as well as external weather conditions during several hours of a round – changed on a frequent basis.
