Sportswear company Nike will set up a factory in the eastern Turkish province of Agri, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced recently in a campaign rally ahead of the March 31 local elections. The factory will offer employment to 5,000 people, he said. Nike now sponsors Turkey's national football team and Istanbul-based football club Galatasaray.

Nike also sponsors basketball heavyweights Fenerbahce Beko, a professional basketball team and the men's basketball department of Fenerbahçe SK, a major Turkish multi-sport club based in Istanbul, according to a Turkish newspaper report. (DS)
