Organic Basics growing at 200-400% annually

Organic Basics, a Copenhagen based clothing company that creates sustainable and longer lasting underwear, t-shirts and socks, has been growing significantly since it started in 2015, experiencing yearly growth rates between 200 per cent and 400 per cent. Organic Basics launched through Kickstarter, which gave the initial capital for its first production.

“One of the next big steps for us is to dive deeper into the lifecycle of our products, and make sure our products are fit for recycling. We believe this is the key to sustainability,” Mads Fibiger Rasmussen, co-founder and CEO of Organic Basics, told Fibre2Fashion in an exclusive interview.

The company initially started manufacturing GOTS-certified organic cotton boxer briefs and mid-rise socks for men. It then witnessed a demand for other organic and sustainable basic products as well as for similar basic products for women. “Thereafter, we wanted to create even more innovative products, and decided to introduce SilverTech. We took our organic cotton and spun actual pure silver into the material to make it antibacterial,” he said.

Denmark is a big market for Organic Basics and it has seen a lot of traction in California where people believe in its sustainable vision. It also has large markets in Germany and in the UK and plans to explore a larger part of Europe in 2018. (KD)
