Rubana Huq to be BGMEA president for 2019-21

Rubana Huq, managing director of the Mohammadi Group, will be the first female president of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). She will take over the post on April 20 after her panel, the Sammilito Forum, won all 35 posts of directors in the biennial election of the trade body held at Dhaka and Chittagong recently.
Some 1,492 voters out of total 1,956 cast their votes in both the locations.
The Sammilito Forum and the Shadhinata Parishad contested for 26 posts of directors as all nine directors were elected unopposed from the Chittagong zone earlier.
A total of 35 directors needed to be elected for the formation of the BGMEA board.
Huq was featured in BBC 100 Women in 2013 and 2014 and served as the chief executive officer of TV Southasia from 2006 to 2010. (DS)
