Scarabaeus Sacer (pronounced scara-bay-0s sacher), an ethical and sustainable clothing brand from Egypt, is activating a true ‘conscientious fashion’ movement using the best quality fabrics in the world. Sacer was established in 2018 as a brand name that specialises in sustainable, ethical, premium quality clothing and accessories for women and men.

A give back brand unapologetically advocating for social and environmental issues, Sacer's 100 per cent organic Egyptian cotton t-shirts are made from the finest cotton in the world, with an uber soft texture, lightweight, breathable and also super fashionable.

"In addition to our products being fully GOTS certified, our designs are so versatile that you can wear them while you’re lazing about at home or even to an exciting night out on the town. Our team, artists and designers are activating a true ‘conscientious fashion’ movement using the best quality fabrics in the world," May Kassem, co-founder & COO of Scarabaeus Sacer told Fibre2Fashion.

Explaining the significance of the name 'Scarabaeus Sacer', Kassem said it is the Latin name for the ancient Egyptian Scarab beetle, which they held to be very sacred and a symbol of re-birth and resurrection. "Our brand aims to invoke revival and re-birth of the fashion industry; specifically, what is to be ethical, sustainable and eco-friendly. We want to bridge the gap between conventional or stereotypical ideas about organic fashion with fashion forward, trendy and hip premium fashion. You can be a conscientious consumer and still be fashionable."

"At Sacer we want our designs to breakdown barriers, reduce stigma, raise awareness, empower people, and most of all start real honest conversations. Our designers and artists aim to shock, and enlighten; shedding light on the challenges of so many out there. Each collection will be a fashionable catalyst for change and a chance for reflection and a genuine paradigm shift about social issues and the environment," she added.

Each collection launched by Sacer aims to create conversations on a novel thematic area that is mindful of the global goals for sustainable development (SDGs), activating an authentic homegrown conscientious fashion movement.

"Ethical sourcing of our fabrics helps keep our carbon footprint down. Our supply chain is completely traceable, and our brand is produced in fields that save at least 20 per cent more water and absorb an average of around 3 tons of carbon dioxide per hectare and per year," said Kassem.
