According to recent media reports, Vietnam’s exports to Singapore showed strong growth, with outbound shipments jumping by 15 per cent in the first ten months of 2024.
Vietnam held a market share of 8.98 per cent in Singapore’s garment market. Its imports from Vietnam were valued at $181.608 million, out of total apparel imports of $2,021.812 million during January–November 2024. China and Italy, the first- and second-largest garment suppliers, contributed over 44 per cent of total apparel imports in the same period, according to trade data procured from Fibre2Fashion's market insight tool, TexPro.
Singapore imported apparel worth $190.110 million from Vietnam in 2023, accounting for 8.31 per cent of its total apparel imports of $2,287.495 million. The combined contribution of the top two suppliers, China and Italy, exceeded 48 per cent for the year.
According to TexPro, trousers and shorts were the most dominant garment category in Singapore’s apparel imports from Vietnam. These imports were valued at $45.497 million, making up 26.94 per cent of total apparel imports from the country during the first 11 months of 2024. The imports of T-shirts stood at $34.801 million (20.60 per cent), shirts at $25.066 million (14.84 per cent), innerwear at $20.085 million (11.89 per cent), and jerseys at $15.619 million (9.25 per cent).
Singapore’s imports of fabric and home textiles from Vietnam have been negligible in recent years.
