The US was the largest market for Vietnamese footwear consumption, accounting for 36.74 per cent of the country's total footwear export turnover, reaching $2.611 billion.
Footwear exports to China touched $662.660 million during the five-month period, accounting for 9.3 per cent of Vietnam’s export share.
From January to May 2019, Vietnam earned $1.5 billion from exporting handbags, purses, suitcases, headgear and umbrellas, registering a growth of 11.9 per cent year-on-year.
In 2018, Vietnam exported footwear valued at $16.3 billion, showing a growth of 11 per cent year-on-year. Likewise, its exports of handbags, purses, suitcases, headgear and umbrellas fetched $3.4 billion, up 3.2 per cent over the previous year.
The Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso) is expecting the country’s footwear and handbag exports to increase 11 per cent this year. (RKS)
