Vietnamese footwear exports up 13.8% in Jan-May '19

Footwear exports from Vietnam increased by 13.8 per cent year-on-year during the first five months of the current year, according to the statistics of the General Department of Customs under the ministry of finance. During the period, Vietnam earned $7.105 billion from footwear exports, which accounted for 7.02 per cent of the total export turnover.

The US was the largest market for Vietnamese footwear consumption, accounting for 36.74 per cent of the country's total footwear export turnover, reaching $2.611 billion.

Footwear exports to China touched $662.660 million during the five-month period, accounting for 9.3 per cent of Vietnam’s export share.

From January to May 2019, Vietnam earned $1.5 billion from exporting handbags, purses, suitcases, headgear and umbrellas, registering a growth of 11.9 per cent year-on-year.

In 2018, Vietnam exported footwear valued at $16.3 billion, showing a growth of 11 per cent year-on-year. Likewise, its exports of handbags, purses, suitcases, headgear and umbrellas fetched $3.4 billion, up 3.2 per cent over the previous year.

The Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (Lefaso) is expecting the country’s footwear and handbag exports to increase 11 per cent this year. (RKS)
