Wal-Mart to roll out 40 more stores

The world's biggest retailer with sales of over US $400 billion in 2008 has evinced interest in opening 40 more stores in India in the near future, informed Mr Anand Sharma, Minister of Commerce and Industry.

This was informed to Mr Sharma by the CEO of Wal-Mart, Mr Robson Walton in a meeting which the latter held with the Prime Minister of India, Mr Manmohan Singh, in which Mr Sharma was also present.

Wal-Mart is currently present in India in a joint venture with the Bharti Group under the name of Bharti Wal-Mart Private Ltd and has a cash-and-carry model by the name of 'Best Price Modern' and opened the first of its stores in Amritsar in May this year.
