The decision was made by an interagency panel, the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements, chaired by the Commerce Department .

U.S. retailers had countered the re-imposition of quotas on China, appealing that it will result higher prices for American consumers.

The administration informed that four other petitions has been filed by the industry last year urging for re-imposition of quotas in other clothing categories and the action could be taken soon because the public comment period has now ended in those cases.
