The Bush administration has re-imposed quota on Chinese-made cotton trousers, cotton knit shirts and cotton & synthetic fibre underwear, that has disappointed apparel retailer through out the country.

Retailer are disagree with the the President's decision because imposed quota on the hot categories of textile will simply raise prices for the US consumers.

While the other side the textile producers in US happily accepted the decision of restricting Chinese exports, saying this will save thousands of job-loss in the country.

The US textile industry has been expecting for same kind of decision, as 18 textile units have been forced to shut down this year and nearle 16,000 textile and apparel industry worker have lost their jobs due to eliminating global quotas that had bounded China and other countries that could takeover the industry.

Carlos Gutierrez, Commerce Secretary explained that the government had found surge in shipments from China since first month after ending the textile quota, it was disrupting the domestic market. The decision was made by an interagency panel, the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements, chaired by the Commerce Department .

U.S. retailers had countered the re-imposition of quotas on China, appealing that it will result higher prices for American consumers.

The administration informed that four other petitions has been filed by the industry last year urging for re-imposition of quotas in other clothing categories and the action could be taken soon because the public comment period has now ended in those cases.
