A footwear park, which is under development at the industrial growth centre of the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) at Kinalur was inaugurated on April 22.

The park is being developed on an area of around 70 acres and it comprises all the basic infrastructural amenities such as water and power supply.

Elamaram Kareem, Minister for Industries and Commerce informed that, over 35 investors looking forward to start footwear units in the park were looking out for the required space to set up their unit. More so, documents granting lease of the plot were also distributed during the inaugural function.

From the proposals received till date, a total investment of about Rs 5 billion has been generated that ensures direct employment to over 2,000 workers and an additional number of 4,000 workers will be indirectly roped under the employment net.

Majority of the State's footwear industries are located in the Kozhikode district and the Minister was optimistic that as the new integrated footwear park commences, it will embrace a significant group of industrialists under one roof.

The KSIDC industrial growth centre at Kinalur is spread over an area of 300 acres of land, of which 30 acres have been allotted to Usha School of Athletics.

Subsequent to the allocation of land for the footwear park, the government is now consulting the domestic and foreign industrial groups for setting up comprehensive industrial units on the 200 acres of land, which is still lying vacant.

The minister said that, the government intends to develop the Kinalur growth centre into a major industrial hub of Kozhikode district.
