According to a bill, that received a nod by state senators, Californian footwear producers could continue shipping kangaroo goods into California till 2016.
Shoes and other goods made from Australian kangaroos, which are not in danger of extinction, but were banned from entering California since 2007, will now be allowed entry again. But, unless the legislators act fast to extend it, this law is likely to expire next year.
Kangaroo leather for their footwear is preferred by law enforcement officers and soccer players. Monetary Park Democrat, Senator Ron Calderon's bill SB 1345, will permit imports of these footwear for the next five years. The bill was recently passed in the Senate with 23:5 votes and will now be presented in the Assembly.
It includes protection measures ensuring that endangered populace of kangaroos are not harmed. The Humane Society of the United States has opposed the bill.
