India is considering a proposal to set up an e-commerce platform for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to be marketed worldwide, according to MSME minister Nitin Gadkari, who recently told the International SME Convention in Delhi that SMEs will contribute around half to the gross domestic product over the next five years as against 29 per cent now.

He said the vision of India turning a $5-trillion economy can be fulfilled only with the help of MSMEs.

Employment in the MSME sector is also set to increase to 15 crores from around 11 crores at present, a news agency quoted the minister as saying. (DS)
