NIFT to get deemed University status, says Textiles Minister Shankersinh Vaghela

he also informed that two more nift institutes are being developed, at surat (in gujarat) and at lucknow (up).

to prevent 'slow death' of handloom industry, the minister conveyed that his ministry is contemplating to develop a special logo which will distinguish handlooms from other fabrics.
he feared that the powerlooms were biggest threat to the traditional handloom industry where products churned out by the former are easily passed off as handloom products.
“we are thinking of developing a logo or a hallmark for identifying handlooms from other products to stop this practice,” he said.
the country has 65 lakh artisans; 62 per cent of which are women and about 35 lakh looms that survived on subsidies.
