Indian fashion and tech networking platform 6Degree recently presented collections of several designers-Ambika Lal, Gaurika Sharma, Pinky Agarwal, Bandana Narula, Kavita Agarwal and Masumi Mewawalla-at the Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 in Mumbai, which concluded on August 25. 6Degree was founded by Nikhil Hegde and Amit Bhardwaj in August 2014.

Designer Ambika Lal’s collection was inspired by swirling galaxies in the Milky Way. Influenced by the other realms of the universe, stunning components like the sun and moon motifs were used to create flamboyant garments, while the vast multitude of stars in dark skies were beautifully portrayed as embellishments.

Inspired by the Dutch impressionist painters of the 17th century, the ‘Soutache’ collection by Gaurika Sharma fused inimitable floral prints on vintage structured jackets to create a visually stunning line of mixed bloom paintings for an illusionary experience.

Bandana Narula’s collection ‘Dazva’ was an amalgamation of mesmerizing silhouettes, according to a press release from the organisers. ‘Dazva’, which means ‘liberal’, teamed lilies and hydrangeas with self-hued sequins and dabka.

Pinkey Agarwal’s label ‘Purple Feathers’ unveiled the ‘Mystical Curves’ collection used an assortment of organic drapes along with lush flowing fabrics like satin, crêpe and crêpe Lycra, in tones of off-white and ivory to create a range of timeless style and appeal.

Heavily inspired by Indian handloom and hand embroidery techniques, 22-year-old namesake brand of Saroj Jalan presented its bridal collection ‘Banji’, which was inspired by the carefree and colourful women of the Roma gypsys and Indian nomadic communities.

Kraft Corridor presented its collection ‘Manzar’, meaning view in Urdu. Taking inspiration from the vibrant underwater life, the designers tried to remind the audience of the endangered lives. Hoping that pollution would be reduced, Kraft Corridor reflected the beauty and serenity of the oceans.

Launched in 2009, Kavita Agarwal’s label presented ‘The Queen’s Closet’ with grand and larger-than-life designs in which the intricate, classic, hand embroidery showed a strong sense of Indian heritage, but the silhouettes brought in a sense of modernity.

Pink Peacock Couture by designer Masumi Mewawalla, known for merging European aesthetics with Indian silhouettes, presented a bridal collection ‘Art Nouveau and Art Deco’. A combination of design aesthetics from the late 1800s to early 1900s and the old European architecture of Mumbai could be seen forming a unique harmony. (DS)
