E-commerce investor Clearco has announced that its ClearAngel programme has funded Bomaternity, a Canadian activewear brand specialising in stylish and practical apparel for all stages of motherhood. ClearAngel gives early-stage founders access to revenue share capital, data-driven advice and Clearco’s extensive network of apps, agencies and investors.

Bomaternity was founded in 2017 by Mississauga-based sister duo Megan Pembleton and Alicia Lyn. The concept for the brand’s first product, a nursing sports bra, arrived when Alicia realised the discomfort of her traditional sports bra - the only option for staying active while taking care of her child. Eighteen months later, Bomaternity was born, offering stylish yet functional pieces and has since grown to offer maternity underwear as well as pregnancy and postpartum tights, the company said in a press release.

The brand currently offers a complete activewear line and is set to launch new, Canadian-made products this fall.

“We’re honoured to invest in Bomaternity and support its mission to keep moms healthy and active,” said Andrew D’Souza, CEO and co-founder, Clearco. “This funding speaks to ClearAngel’s continuous commitment to not only support women-owned businesses, but innovative brands that are solving everyday issues.”

Through ClearAngel’s unique programme, Bomaternity will also get access to a network of more than 500 investors, growth teams, agencies, apps, lawyers and buyers and data-driven advice designed to help scale and hit new revenue milestones. With this support, Bomaternity seeks to reduce costs and invest in new growth channels.

“Growing up in a family of girls, we were lucky to have a mom who supported our self-care; we really want to inspire and empower moms to take care of themselves through their motherhood journey,” said co-founder Lyn.

“We’re excited to add ClearAngel to our list of supporters and look forward to helping mothers take care of themselves and, in turn, their families,” said Pembleton.
