"Impact Fashion” pioneer Indigenous, leader in ethical and sustainable clothing, has been named by B Lab as Best For The World. It has been awarded for making a positive impact in two categories - Overall and Community. This puts Indigenous among the top 10 per cent of B Corporations, companies which use business to make positive change in the world.

"As one of the original 18 founding B Corporations, we are thrilled to play a role in the national acceptance of B Corp—now numbering over 2,400 businesses—that put people and planet ahead of profit. Over 20 years ago, Indigenous had a founding vision to create a culture of caring. Caring for the communities that makes our clothing. Caring for our environment by using only 100 per cent organic cotton, and sustainable practices. Caring for our customers, who deserve clothing that is entirely healthy, natural, and fair trade,” said Scott Leonard, CEO and co-founder of Indigenous.

The category of Overall Best For The World is awarded based on a company's verified positive impact on communities, the natural environment, workers and more. The Community portion of the B Impact Assessment, for which Indigenous was also honoured, evaluates a company’s supplier relations, diversity, and involvement in the local community. It also measures the company’s practices and policies around community service and charitable giving, including whether a company’s product or service is designed to solve a social issue, such as access to basic services, health, education, economic opportunity and the arts. Honourees scoring in the top 10 per cent set a gold standard for how business can be a force for good in communities around the world.

Indigenous made the list thanks to exceptional practices like providing women with free skills training, zero-interest loans, access to clean water, quality affordable childcare, investment in local schools, and much more.

“With the rise of anger at a system that feels rigged, people are hungry for companies like Indigenous, who are changing the system by building businesses that seek to create the greatest positive impact,” says Jay Coen Gilbert, co-founder of B Lab. " Indigenous is a true pioneer of ethical fashion and one of the original eighteen Founding B Corporations in the world. Their voice and leadership has paved the way for over two thousand B Corps to redefine success in business." (SV)
