Kingpins Transformers is organising an annual educational conference 'Transformers: ED' for fashion students who are still at university and about to enter the wider fashion industry. The conference is set for October 18 at Ravensbourne University, London and is sponsored by Tencel, Saitex and FibreTrace, featuring speakers from across the denim supply chain.

As with all Kingpins Transformers conferences, the focus of Transformers: ED will be on the social, environmental and economic challenges facing the denim industry. The event will spotlight solutions being created by leading members of the denim community and help students understand the inefficiencies and threats facing the denim supply chain – as well as opportunities for improvement and innovation.

"I have always been passionate about education and engaging with young people who will enter the denim industry and hopefully change it for the better," said Andrew Olah, founder of Kingpins Transformers and Kingpins Show. "If we want to push the denim industry toward the radical change that is necessary to make us sustainable and transparent, we – as an industry – must actively engage with students, educate them, provide them with insights and support them as they enter the industry. I taught a denim course at FIT for 15 years with that goal. ED is our attempt at doing the same thing on a larger scale. Thankfully, we have enjoyed tremendous support from our friends and partners."

At the inaugural event, 15 speakers will explore the supply chain, explaining how things are made, identify best practices and, from there, give students insights on sustainability throughout the production chain.

The event will be hosted by Mohsin Sajid, founder of Denim History. On October 22 Kingpins Transformers will host Kingpins Transformers: Catalysts, a conference to spotlight the members of the denim supply chain focused on redefining the rules for the future, in Amsterdam. Makers of new fibres, new pigments, clever chemicals, new brands with sustainability baked into their DNA and more will discuss their strategies for igniting change.

Kingpins Show organisers in collaboration with House of Denim, represents members of the denim community that are committed to creating, implementing and sharing the changes that need to happen in the jeans industry to make it more environmentally viable, socially responsible and financially sound.

The Amsterdam-based House of Denim Foundation is a platform for craftsmanship, sustainability and innovation in the denim industry. It was founded to connect and inspire denim lovers and stakeholders. Through the development of education, innovation, enterprise and networking projects, it strives to make the world of jeans dryer, cleaner and smarter; 'Towards a Brighter Blue’. House of Denim is based in Denim City, Amsterdam. (PC)
