Lakme Salon presented the ‘The Blockbuster Brides’ bridal collection by designers Anushree Reddy and Arpita Mehta at the Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) Winter/Festive 2019 in Mumbai, which concluded on August 25. Delhi-based designer Rajdeep Ranawat showcased ‘Sindh’, his latest winter festive collection inspired by the Mughal era on the final day of the event.

Reddy and Mehta collection presented hairstyles, make-up and bridal creations. “Our collaboration with Anushree and Arpita for LFW will let real-life brides bring their silver-screen dreams to reality,” Pushkaraj Shenai, chief executive officer of Lakmé Lever, said in a statement.

This season the bridal collection by Reddy, called ‘Gulaal’, was an ode to flowers and their exquisite natural fragrance. She presented regal lehengas, sensuous cholis and swirling dupattas.

Mehta’s collections selected a fantasy of nude pink, champagne, gold, ivory, neon yellow and pink on fabrics like Tabi silk, Modal and silk organza. Stylish elements like coins, ghungroos, cowrie shells were added.

For the pink section, Mehta brought in frilled, layered, flared pants and cover, shararas with a kaftan style kurta and a mirror work jacket styled with lehenga and dupatta.

The designs in Ranawat’s ‘Sindh’ had bold embellishments and motifs of Kutch in Gujarat, the bandhani techniques of Bhuj and traditional weaves of Balochistan.

The designer combined these strong ethnic themes from Western India and beyond effortlessly in the collection that combined the royal regalia of emperors with the poetic notes of ancient cultures. according to a statement from the organisers.

The collection’s asymmetrical tunics, dhotis, skirts, trench coats and sheer cover-ups conjured up the flamboyant grandeur of the Nawabi era. He used contemporary techniques in printing and embellishments like Swarovski crystals with lacquer finishes. Swarovski India has been associated with Ranawat since 2000 and continues to support the designer for all his new creations year after year. (DS)
