Plea for jewellery tax exemption

The Tamilnadu All Jewellery Merchants Association has made a plea to Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa seeking exemption from procurement tax, sales tax and registration certificate.

At a meeting chaired by Rathina Ramanathan Chettiar, President of the association, an appeal was made to the chief minister for exemption for jewellery traders having annual turnover of Rs 3 lakh and traders with less than Rs 3 lakh capital investment.

The Association thanked Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for granting recognition to Tamilnadu All Jewellery Merchants Association.

A resolution was passed to create awareness among their members on selling 916 mark ornaments only.They would also alert them on fake jewels brought for sale.

Demand for protection to jewellery traders in the neighbouring States of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and the Union Territory of Pondicherry will be made to the Chief Minister.
