Perth Fashion Festival begins

Perth Fashion Festival (PFF) from 21 – 27 September 2011 kicked off its highly anticipated 2011 program last night with an exclusive VIP launch party featuring one of Western Australia's hottest design talents, Aurelio Costarella.

Celebrities, dignitaries, media and a who's who of WA's fashion were treated to a fashion feast as Costarella, for the first time in PFF history, showcased his Spring Summer collection and a live presentation of his 24 Looks exhibition.

Costarella's Spring Summer collection featured his signature lace, feathers, draping and embellishments. 21 models paraded in circular fashion around the C Restaurant overlooking the magnificent Swan River.

Jazz singer Julia Jenkins entertained VIP guests including Perth Fashion Festival Directors Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan and Tony Sage, West Australian Premier Colin Barnett, Attorney General Christian Porter, Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi, national and international media guests, designers Kym Ellery, Yeojin Bae, Trump Models NY's Duane Giza, international fashion blogger Kee Hua Chee and participating designers in PFF 2011.

Earlier in the day, Perth's fashionistas enjoyed fine food and fashion at the Myer Fashion Luncheon. National designer Gabrielle Manning from Manning Cartell attended the lunch as a VIP guest alongside Kym Ellery, Aurelio Costarella and Yeojin Bae – all leading Australian labels in the Myer stable.

Now in its 13th year, the Festival has embraced its 'coming of age' with a number of firsts including tonight's stand-alone showcase Yeojin Bae and Designer Capsule #1 show.

Today's festival highlights include:
- Restyle, 12.30pm, Fashion Central
Restyle captures the heart of the vintage shopper by showcasing fashion on a budget. The runway will be taken over by one of 2011's hottest trends - op shopping - turning budget fashion finds into this season's hottest looks. Reuse, Recycle and Restyle!

- Yeojin Bae, 6.30pm, Fashion Paramount
One of Australia's most coveted designers, Yeojin Bae will make her Perth debut at the sophisticated new home for Fashion Paramount – Hackett Hall at the Western Australian Museum. This is the first time in the Festival's history a national designer has taken to the PFF runway - making it a show, not to be missed.

Yeojin Bae will showcase her Premiere collection featuring necklines decorated with mesh fabric, sequined pieces that hug the body in an array of sleek silks.

- Designer Capsule #1 - Paperskye, Lisa Marjanovich & Little Gracie, 9pm, Fashion Paramount
In another 'first ' for PFF, local designers will showcase their Spring Summer 2011/12 collections in a series of designer capsule runway shows at Fashion Paramount, the first of these featuring Paperskye, Lisa Marjanovich and Little Gracie.

The designer capsule concept was introduced to the Festival this year to expand runway showing opportunities for local designers. Each designer will present 15-20 looks with their own creative choice of runway theme, music, lighting, hair, make-up and models.

Tonight's Designer Capsule show is 'one for the girls' featuring the soft, feminine, 'girly' charm of three of WA's hottest designers.

Perth's biggest fashion event will showcase 136 labels from a range of well-known, up-and-coming, and student designers throughout the seven day celebration.

The 2011 Perth Fashion Festival has something for everyone.
