Varela + Brooks to participate in NOLA Fashion Week

Dallas-based design duo Isabel Varela and Ashlee Brooks of Varela + Brooks, a stylish collection of women's contemporary attire, will be headed to Louisiana for NOLA Fashion Week in mid-October. The designers will debut their Spring/Summer collection at the label's exclusive runway show on Thursday, October 20th at 6:30 p.m. at the Ogden Museum (925 Camp Street).
“It is a huge honor to be recognized by the New Orleans fashion industry,” says Isabel, a Louisiana native. “We are proud to be included in its wealth of fashion talent and to promote its stunning fashion scene.”
Launched earlier this year by The New Orleans Fashion Council, NOLA Fashion Week celebrates designers based or born in the South with a week of parties, six label-exclusive runway shows, fashion presentations, educational workshops and a fashion market. The first fashion week resulted in 81 published articles in 45 publications from New Orleans to New York City to London in addition to new store orders for designers and two models being accepted by modeling agencies. The bi-annual fashion events promote Fall/Winter collections in the Spring and vice versa.
When asked to describe their yet-to-be-released Spring/Summer collection, Ashlee is good at keeping secrets. “We are still making final changes on the designs and don't want to reveal anything quite yet. However, you can still expect my preference for very feminine, flowy garments and Isabel's tailored sensibility. It is our trademark.”
The Varela + Brooks label, founded in January 2011, features unique cocktail and evening dresses, separates and outerwear for women. It reflects the individual inspirations and personalities of its two gifted designers: the structured, tailored sensibility of Isabel Varela and the romantic, whimsical softness of Ashlee Brooks.
Varela + Brooks were awarded first runner-up in the reputable Texas' Next Top Designer competition, were leading fashion design contenders for a national reality television show in Los Angeles, and have been involved in numerous fashion events. This is the second time they will be participating in NOLA Fashion Week.
