Naomi Milgrom AO will be presented with an Honorary Doctorate - Doctor of Business Honoris Causa, by RMIT University on Wednesday, 14 December at RMIT's Graduation Ceremony at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne's Docklands.

Ms Milgrom is the Executive Chair and CEO of the Sussan Group that includes Sportsgirl, Sussan and Suzanne Grae. Under her leadership the Group has grown to become Australia's largest women's apparel fashion retailer.

She is a regular contributor to RMIT University through the School of Fashion and Textiles, and Design Victoria. Ms Milgrom's business acumen in fashion has clear links to RMIT's strengths, and many students have benefited from her knowledge and expertise - both directly at RMIT and through her involvement with the Melbourne Fashion Festival.

Ms Milgrom was a highly successful Chair of the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival until 2008. The Festival also reflected her commitment to mentoring young Australian talent. Over 100 designers who made their debut at the Festival have gone on to become established Australian brands. Amongst them were RMIT graduates.

RMIT University Vice Chancellor, Professor Margaret Gardner, said Naomi continues to develop the next generation of the Australian fashion industry at RMIT.

"The Sussan Group is providing RMIT's fashion and textile students with integrated learning and other employment opportunities through projects such the Young Essentials Project.

"Naomi is also supporting the careers of students by showcasing their work in her fashion stores. She is an outstanding business leader and entrepreneur," Professor Gardner said.

Ms Milgrom said she is particularly honoured to receive this degree from RMIT, with which she has had a long connection and she has great admiration.

"I value outstanding education and the importance of innovation in all endeavours. RMIT itself is an innovator and I value my association with this great university," Ms Milgrom said.

As Chair of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art over the past six years, Ms Milgrom has also taken the lead in developing young Australian talent in contemporary art.
